These procedures are performed at Canterbury Breastcare as required prior to your breast surgery.
Hookwire localization
This procedure is performed when an area in your breast needs to be removed for further testing. Hookwire localisation is performed to guide your Surgeon to the required area of tissue to be removed.
Hookwire localisations insert a very thin wire and are performed using either mammogram guidance or ultrasound guidance.
Wire-free (Scout) Localization
This procedure is performed when an abnormal area in your breast, seen on your mammogram or ultrasound, is too small to be felt by you or your doctor. Scout localization is performed to guide your surgeon to this area during your surgery. The scout clip used is about the size of a grain of rice.
