Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA)

FNA is a sampling method that takes cells, not complete tissue.

It is most commonly used to sample axillary (armpit) lymph nodes if required.

Aspiration can also be performed of fluid, eg in cysts or to drain seromas or abscesses, where fluid is withdrawn via a needle into a syringe.

Commonly this is for symptomatic relief only, but if required, this can be sent to the laboratory for analysis.
